I don't get believe this is the norm, however the interview process was extremely quick. I was contacted 2 days after applying to arrange an initial interview with a recruiter via WebEx that lasted about 30mins. This interview provided a preliminary introduction in the role along with a few scenario based questions. At the end the interviewer told me I'd move on to the second round "group" interview which was the following day, in-person. She advised I use the STAR method when answering the questions at the in-person interview.
The in-person interview was disarmingly calm, and actually quite relaxed. We had about 10 applicants in our group, all us were applying for one of two positions-- or both. There was approx. 8 Amex staff members conducting the interview including the department manager, and the regional director happened to pop in for observation. The group interview was just under 2 hours and was split into two parts. 4 rounds of "speed-dating" (as they called it) in which you'd conduct 4 eight minute one-on-one interviews that included role playing and scenario based questions. Again, the atmosphere was very relaxed and those conducting interviews genuinely seemed to love their jobs! (Side note: the interview staff was extremely diverse. Age, ethnicity, professional backgrounds etc.)
I was contacted the same day with a position offer, and even managed to negotiate a higher base salary.
