      Computer Specialist Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Best Buy in Mar 2010

      Interview

After applying online and taking that tedious personality assessment, I was first contacted with a phone interview which took about 5 minutes. Simple questions such as: Why do you want to work for Best Buy? What is your availability? etc. afterwards they scheduled my first interview which was 3 days later with the 2 managers. The interview was approximately 25 minutes of scenario questions which they read from an interview guide. My best advice here is to be as specific and detailed as possible and tie it in to past experience that is similar. They are required to take notes while you talk so don't be alarmed, just answer confidently and you'll be fine. After the interview was over the manager told me that I will be contacted to schedule my final interview with the GM, he said if i nail that one i got the job just be myself and i should do fine. I got a call the next day to schedule my interview with the GM, it was shorter than the previous interview with similar scenario questions but fewer. The trick to this interview is to nail the question on shrink which is very important to the company since it's an ongoing problem which is impossible to fix completely but can be controlled if employees take the right precautions. Basically it'll be a question like "what would you do if you saw another employee steal something?" or "if you were the manager and an employee stole an item what punishment should the employee receive?" you basically have to convey the message that stealing shouldn't be tolerated no matter what in your response. After i nailed that question and answered the scenario questions satisfactorily i was made a job offer but it was contingent upon passing a criminal background check and drug screen which took about a week for them to get the results. Then i got a call for orientation which was just watching a bunch of best buy videos for 5 hours and introductions. The training was just e-learnings and shadowing employees for 2 weeks.

      Question 1

Most of the questions were the same just scenarios questions which i thoroughly prepared for beforehand, but if i would have to choose 1 since i hate to talk about myself and didn't know what kind of answer they were looking for i would have to say "What do you feel are your strengths and weaknesses?"

      Interview

They ask you a bunch of "Name a time you were put in a leadership position and a problem you faced and how you overcame it" Just think on highschool or sports or make something up. As long as you're well spoken and can put together some coherent sentences you're good.

      Interview

AftThere were 3 interviews - on the phone, with store manager, and general manager. The phone interview just a screening with one of their office leads. This was just to get a feel for what kind of person you are and know about your past experience. I got an interview scheduled for the next day and it was pretty simple. Discussed work history again and did some behavioral type questions. They informed whether or not they were going to push you to the third interview, and I was pushed along. When I told the GM that I wanted to work in the computer department he was hesitant because he had standards on who he wanted in that department - he wanted people who knew their stuff. I, however, convinced him I would be good for the role and he decided to hire me. He sent me information for where to take the drug test and I would come back in for further paperwork pending the results. A week or so past and I hadn't heard anything from them. I called them and I was told they totally forgot about me. They told me to come in to sign paperwork to complete the process. Definitely be persistent if you're wanting a job here. I had to also call in multiple times to see if they got my application.
