I applied online. The process took 8 months. I interviewed at Canva (Paris) in Nov 2024
Interview
Countless interviews and presentation, and no one really knew what the role was supposed to do. They expect a level of seniority that they themselves have never had and apparently have no idea what it means in practice. None of the interviewers had clear answers to the questions or knew what the person should actually do, yet they wanted the candidate to create the need for the role and enlighten the interviewers. A huge amount of time was invested in the process, and in the end, the position was fake. This is not the first time Canva has done this, and I have never participated in such an abusive process with absolutely no criteria. The recruitment leadership should be immediately reviewed, as well as the lack of maturity among their employees. Canva treats candidates like garbage simply because it is a “hyped” company. Unfortunately, they are completely contradicting the values they claim to uphold.

Question 1
What strategy would you adopt in different situations?
This was one of the most disappointing hiring experiences I’ve ever had. At first, Canva seems like a modern and inspiring company, but the recruitment process tells a different story. The team shows little respect for candidates’ time and effort. The process is unnecessarily long, disorganized, and marked by constantly changing requirements that reveal a lack of clarity and direction. Similar roles in other countries were filled by completely different profiles than originally requested, suggesting that positions are shaped around preferred candidates rather than the other way around.
Throughout the process, it became evident that the hiring panel lacked clarity about the role itself. They couldn’t answer key questions about responsibilities or expectations, and feedback received was completely misaligned with the job description. Overall, the experience came across as unprofessional and poorly managed. Canva should seriously reconsider how it treats candidates if it wants to reflect the culture it promotes publicly.

Interview
Long process and it was clear the recruitment team and work area weren’t aligned on what they were looking for. Very senior exec said “the place was a sh*tshow when I got here and actually it still is”. Withdrew from the process
