My interview process with Deel was one of the most unprofessional experiences I’ve ever had.
First, the recruiting staff barely seemed to know what the position entailed. Their lack of understanding made it difficult to have a meaningful discussion during the initial stages, and every time I sought interaction with them, I was assigned to a different person who knew nothing about me. I had to start over and explain my entire story repeatedly, which was incredibly frustrating.
Second, the process was extremely unstructured. At the second stage, I was told I would meet the hiring manager, but instead, I was interviewed by a peer—who, to my surprise, was a junior with significantly less experience than me. This raised serious concerns about how the company values its candidates’ time and expertise.
When I eventually met the hiring manager, their answers to my questions were incredibly vague. I had prepared thoughtful, detailed questions about the company’s mission and how the role aligned with it, but every response felt evasive, as if they were deliberately hiding something. Even after follow-ups, I couldn’t get clear answers, leaving me with more questions than before.
After progressing to the final round, the process ended with complete radio silence. Despite my follow-ups, I received no communication from the company until an impersonal automated email informed me I wasn’t selected. Being ghosted after investing so much time is not only unprofessional but disrespectful.
What’s even more disappointing is how much they brag all over the internet about being compliant and “cool.” They claim to care about transparency and values, but my experience as a candidate painted a very different picture.
Overall, this experience reflected poorly on the Deel's organizational structure and values. I would advise them to significantly improve their hiring practices, starting with better preparation, transparency, and respect for candidates’ time and effort.
