Question 1
Why did you choose UX design and what do you expect for your career
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Expedia Group (Seattle, WA)
Interview
I applied for several UX positions at Expedia I believe in October last year. I had a couple follow-up interviews: one that was a screener with the recruiter and then one with a UX Manager. They seemed to go well and I was told I’d get follow up information from the recruiter, but then I heard nothing back. I then reached out once every couple weeks to the recruiter and when I did get responses, they were along the lines of “we’re still looking over things and will get back to you soon”. I was pretty understanding at this point, since Expedia seemed to be going through a huge hiring spree.
Well after several times reaching out, the recruiter finally got back to me and I had about three more interviews (these were all phone and video interviews by the way, since I was living in California and applied for jobs in Bellevue). After all the interviews, they scheduled me to fly up and interview in person! They set up the flight and everything for me, which was nice.
I did the interview (which while I was interviewing, I found out the interviewer/ux manager was going to another team which kind of threw me off), flew back home, and.....nothing! I got absolutely no word back from Expedia. I found this extremely odd, especially since they had invested so much in me. Not even a rejection notice?
Well...I eventually checked my application status after giving up, and turns out I wasn’t selected.
It was overall a very time-consuming and confusing experience. I really was excited for the opportunity because the company did seem to have some smart and friendly employees, but if the company operates anything like their interview process...it’s probably a good thing I’m not there!
