I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Moody's (New York, NY) in Nov 2012
Interview
Applied online and received an email to set up a phone interview about 2 weeks later. In the phone interview I was asked a few accounting questions and then told they would follow up with the hiring manager. A few days later they contacted me to schedule an interview. I interviewed with a manager and two employees. The questions were all relatively straight forward and just asked about my experiences and why I would make a good fit. A couple of days later I was asked to come in again and meet with another manager who asked similar questions. After another few days I was told by the initial HR contact that my interviews had gone very well and then a week later I received an offer.
I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Moody's (City of London, England) in Apr 2012
Interview
After being rejected for Client Services, I was invited for an Assessment Centre regarding an Analytical role for Moody's Investors Service.
The schedule of the day: an Accounting Test + an essay/article to be produced about the recent economic events (1.30h for the two tasks) + 2 interviews (45’ each).
The Test was not very difficult: divided in 2 parts (one for corporates’ balance sheet/financial statements, one for banking institutions), the exercises were similar: for example, classifying items in assets and liabilities and completing a simple balance sheet.
Then, a series of two 2:1 interviews with other Financial Data Analysts and the Managers followed. Both "teams" wanted to check my technical accounting skills, like the understanding of a balance sheet of a corporate/bank regarding the riskiness of their businesses. No competency-based questions were asked, but I have to say they were the most aggressive interviewers ever met.
Accounting is not my major and I had got the invitation email about 30 hours before the AC (no real time to make an accurate revision), so I wasn't that surprised that they didn't offer me a job (they called me back about 10 days later), since "other candidates performed better than you in the test and interviews".
However, the company left me an extremely positive impression.
Interview questions [3]
Question 1
Is it more risky for a bank having more mortgages or bonds/marketable assets in their balance sheet?
Task: Interviewers gave me a balance sheet+financial statements with two years' value for a bank.
After 2-3 minutes: "Have a look and tell us what you can say about this bank"
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Moody's (New York, NY) in Jun 2010
Interview
Got the position opening through professional networking organization like, Ascend.
Then recruiter contacted me via phone to ask if I want and can interview with the role.
They sent out a list of interviewers including time slot for the date, I had 6 scheduled on the same day.
So, when we got there, we got to meet 6 professionals, either peers, managers, HR, in about 30 mins time frame each for the whole morning.
After the day, I was given respond via email within a few days.
