They asked mostly the basic questions, which every mechanical engineer should know the answer to. The one question that stood out and was very practical was related to strength of machine elements. He asked me, which is more elastic, rubber or steel?

The answer to this question is very practical. It is steel because it has a higher modulus of elasticity.
