I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at UPS in Mar 2012
Interview
Submitted application online, got a call the next day. They set up a tour of the facility. The day of the tour you go into a conference room with the group and they talk about who is a good fit for the job and who is not, mainly to weed out those that don't think they'll be able to work for more than a year. After the tour, they ask if you want to continue to the interview phase or pause your application until you are better prepared. If you can't work for more than a year or quit before the year mark you will get a negative rehire status and you will not be able to work for UPS in the future. If you decide to continue to the interview phase you set up a 1:1 interview with HR in the in the following few days. They give you the days and times available for the interview. If they think you are a good fit and like you, you get a background check done and get a call to come in and start your training.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at UPS (Portland, OR) in Jul 2010
Interview
They take you on a tour to show you how physical the job can be then they do one on one interviews with everyone. Basically you want to tell them that you would like to work there forever and that you love physical labor (do NOT say you only want to work there for a couple of years or so or that you have and physical injuries). The Swan Island hub does not drug test and there are many people there who have criminal history's. I have heard that some UPS Hubs will drug test.
The process took 1 week. I interviewed at UPS (Pittsburgh, PA) in Nov 2011
Interview
I applied, received an email a day later telling me to drive to the facility for a preliminary meeting. They detailed the work required for this position and pay. Upon agreeing to begin the temporary contract, I was summoned to another presentation, further detailing the safety precautions required for the position.
