The advertised position is located in the Department of Education in the section "Foundations of Education" of Univ. Prof. Dr. Daniel Tröhler. The Department's main responsibilities lie within the international area of teaching and research in the field of Education. The subject area of inquiry include the education and training processes in specially created social institutions (such as schools), as well as the educational and socialization processes in non-educational institutionalized fields of social life (peer groups, milieus, media, etc.). The Department of Education is part of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education.
The research area "Foundations of Education" aims at investigating, by means of an international approach, educational systems of thought that emerge in the respective historical, cultural and national contexts and often spread across their own national borders in the course of time. Against the background of international research access, the research area works with partner institutions primarily in Scandinavia, Great Britain, Western Europe, Canada, and the USA. Within the framework of this PraeDoc position, a dissertation is to be written on the basis of the Rudolf Ekstein estate, situated in the building of the Department of Educational Science, the precise content of which is still to be determined. The position is vacant for the period of absence of a member of staff, September 5th - December 26th, 2026.
Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration, which means:
Developing and strengthening an internationally oriented independent research profile
International publications and presentations
Preparing / writing a (publication-ready) dissertation thesis
Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
Supervision of students
Participation in colloquia and other events by the department and the research unit
Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Potentially project application and acquisition of third-party funded projects for PostDoc phase
Scientific supervision of the Rudolf Ekstein estate
This is part of your personality:
Master degree in education
Basic Knowledge of international studies in the given field
Knowledge and skills with regard to the subject areas "development of various schools of psychology in nthe 19th/20th centuries" and "eucation" as well as "historical educational research"
High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
Excellent command of written and spoken German and English
Ability to work in a team
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have:
Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
Enrollment in Doctoral School in Education DSE
Desirable qualifications are:
Knowledge of university processes and structures
Previous knowledge in the development of various schools of psychology including psychoanalysis in the 19th/20th centuries and historical educational research
Interest in the scientific processing of the Rudolf Ekstein Collection
Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (mostly international)
International presentation experience
Professional experience abroad
Knowledge of a third language
