Pros

I have worked for Asda for almost three years, whilst I have been in University and afterwards. I was able to work around my timetable for university and also pick up quite a bit of overtime along the way. Although I didn't want to progress in the store whilst being in eduation there was a lot of progress within and many of my colleagues progressed to shift leaders and management. I progressed myself within store and was able to gain experience from all areas in the store, however this may have been because i was working in a small supermarket. When leaving University I also was able to pick up hours and move to cash office instead of checkouts.

Cons

As said in the title the job does get tedious especially on checkouts, but that is to be expected consdering it is quite a repetitive job. Also there was alot of times when we were without a superviser and left to work on our own. Also within supermarkets colleagues are expected to have knowledge in all areas of the store and have to deal with problems themselves. There were also many occasions where there is a high shortage in staff i believe this is due to limits on hours able to give to staff by management.

Pros

It's perfect for me as a student, I previously worked 3 shifts a week whilst doing my A-levels and full time between the end of exams and start of university. Now I work as a seasonal colleague in half term breaks. ASDA has been flexible and given me loads of shifts which have really helped to pay the costs of student living. The staff are great, they only employ friendly people, some of which I have made very good friends with! The discount card also comes in really handy!

Cons

Sometimes the shifts are long - however I ask for these shifts, long shifts = more £££. The tasks are repetitive, yes, but it's easy work. There is a high level of staff turnover in my store, sometimes I feel myself not knowing some of my superiors and I feel that maybe they could make more of an attempt to get to know me.

Pros

From colleagues to mangers, everyone seems to get on well which makes it an enjoyable atmosphere to work in. Good pay compared to similar places.

Cons

Whole structure is changing which has destroyed morale within the management team, and that is also reflected in the colleagues. Very little organisation and communication at the moment which is making it difficult to do our jobs properly. There were a lot of career opportunities a few months ago, but they seemed to have disappeared.
