Pros

+ Nice area is very pleasant to live in. Weather is sunny almost the whole year and beach is just a 10 minutes drive ! + Many activites to do in the region + Almost no stress at work, and most of the time, there is not even enough work to fill your day (this can be seen as a pro or a con depending on one's perspective...) + Many interesting people to work with from different nationalities and cultures + Starting salary is one of the highest in France for a software engineer + If you want to work on IT field and become a functional expert in travel industry, then you should seriously consider joining Amadeus

Cons

- For people who want to stay technically up-to-date, my only advice is : Run, Forrest. Run! - Worst code quality I have ever seen ! I stress on this since you have to be psychologically preapred to spend countless hours undertsanding an if condition in a method which has a cyclomatic complexity of 20... - Unless you are really lucky, you will do a lot of maintenance and bug fixing during your first years. This has some dramatic consequences such as : * You will spend some of the most boring moments in your life * You will probably encounter no challenge and will begin to count hours remaining before going back home * After a couple of years, you will find that you forgot most of the things that you used to know when you were at school... - You will hear long annoying speeches from top management about empowering people, innovation and going agile. This has nothing to do with reality for three main reasons : * Amadeus staff is aging and no longer up-to-date technically speaking. Besides, there is almost no turn-over, so it is literally impossible to make things move (the Texas Instruments syndrom is not far from us...). * The only criteria which counts for top management is your school diploma. There is little room if any for your coding talents or your innovative ideas...Even Steve Jobs would face tremendous difficulties to progress his career with such a vision... * There is an amazing number of complex processes out there, and most of the decisions are taken based on "political" interests. You are no more than a little small ant in a big anthill... - Amadeus exclusively uses buggy home made technologies which are unknown to other recruiters (believe me this is a real handicap once you start looking for a new job and you will hear your interviewer saying "Aria, Aria what ?")... - I have seen people around me working for 15 years as software engineer ! It is not that they love what they do, but chances to get responsibilites are infinitely small (unless you use some unorthodox manners)... - The Bangalore effect or How to ensure your financial growth by replacing Nice engineers with Bangalore ones and apply a magic formulae : Cost of 3 Indian developers = Cost of 1 French developer...

Pros

Multi cultural environment with lots of travel opportunities specially in Sales or Account Management groups. Company invest in employee training. Offices are located in best IT and business areas in most cities. Global leader in Distribution and Airline IT segments. Deals with top global and regional travel players in all segments (travel suppliers and distributors). Work life balance and benefits are good.

Cons

Management team (managers and directors) has no coaching or mentoring on how to execute strategies or handle employees. No career paths other than basic associate, junior and senior titles. Very slow processes; implementation and communication of best practices takes years. People are very jealous of information in fear of losing their jobs. Employee base is old (average >45 yrs). Product strategy is European centric. Not many career opportunities.

Pros

complex architecture, there's plenty to learn everything in the backend part is coded in C++ third party libraries are allowed

Cons

60%-80% of time is due to maintenance, since Amadeus hosts everything 50% of people are external consultants, needless to say that a consultant's salary is way lower than a regular empoyee. They are now at a point where they can not hire easily people that have been working there as consultants for years, because that would be a financial problem for the consulting companies. Because of this crazy policy to hire through consulting companies, people tend to leave soon, and there is a huge turnover. Management doesn't push enough for hiring consultants, and in some cases you can end up in a team where only your team leader is a regular amadeus staff. There are also cases of full teams/products being developed by external societies within amadeus premises. To recap: you will be working your ass off, for less money than what a regular employee is payed, and you will not get hired easily. Going up in the ladder is no more fun, team leaders just don't care about their products, all they do is trying to have some more budget to do maintenance. There are internal fights between departments, and if you need another team to do something for you, you will have to wait months for just a minor change. People in general are not proactive and all they want is their paycheck at the end of the month. On the other hand, if that's what you're looking for, Amadeus might be the place for you. You can do 9:30am-6pm, with nice 2h lunch break and no one is ever gonna bother you. There is a cantine, where, if you are a consultant, you will have to pay around double what a regular employee pays. Most of the engineers are new grads, ie. not experienced and not trained In conclusion, if you can not find anything else, or if you enjoy a lay back culture, this might be the place for you. If you want to work with smart people, in a company that cares about you, drive away from Amadeus.
