A downward spiral

Pros

Lots of people with vast knowledge and dedication to engage with. In my experience at AZ, I have had the chance to grow and create a network, also with people from other companies. AZ gives you the opportunity to explore your interests, and management has also been responsive to suggestions sometimes. Overall, AZ is a good working environment (but read the cons as well).

Cons

It feels like the situation has been precipitating in the last year or so. The company has decided that all people should go to the office although there is no space for everyone, and also working on site may not be suitable for all roles. I personally felt betrayed by the company I have been working super hard for in the last four years. We have gone through COVID by building trust and keeping delivering, and suddenly the management decided to track office attendance individually. The reputation of AZ being a vanguard company is disintegrating from inside. Most people feel threatened by such strict regulations, and indeed, they feel like it does not make any sense to do the extra mile for a company that uses office attendance as a main metric to decide whether or not to lay you off or strip your bonus. My folks have started looking elsewhere for jobs. Productivity has slowed down. All this thanks to a completely insensitive and detached management: They decided that everyone must be at the desk but they do what they like. They do not want people to travel to save CO2 but they take 2-3 flights a week. Well done you

Pros

Job security Good pay & benefits package On the whole, good and friendly people Many women in leadership role, which is rare. If you stay long enough, there seems to be lots of opportunities to move around the company.

Cons

Huge bureaucracy & silos that come with a large corporate, with imbalance between contractors who can get paid to do very little and overloaded permanent staff. Inflexible and impersonal internal systems and support processes. Very limited circle of influence. And 'presenteism' culture: compulsory 3 days in the office + 'always on' culture where you're expected to work all hours on the premise of being a global organisation, but with little focus on actual value delivered.

Pros

Good salary and overall benefits

Cons

Disregard for mental health in the workplace Treating employees not as adults. Controlling attendance in the office and reducing the bonus for those not coming to the office the minimum required days
