Pros

I've never had as much fun at work as I've had at Best Buy, it's the first time I've enjoyed going to work everyday. I enjoy it primarily because they are flexible with their rules and use the rules to make more freedom, not more restriction. They emphasize the major stuff and are more lax on the minor stuff, unlike all of the other places I have worked at. They encourage thinking outisde the box and doing things differently it means getting the job done, especially if it does it better. You get to interact with customers in your own style and don't have to say the same speech over and over again like a robot. Basically, Best Buy encourages you to be yourself!

Cons

One of the major downsides is that if you're looking to move up, no matter how low on the ladder you are, there's a lot of competition and a lot is expected of you if you're looking to advance. It is very much multi-layered, meaning there are a lot of promotions that you can get. But that means that there is a level that everyone wants to reach, so when you're starting out it's going to be very competitive and then the competition thins out as people begin reaching the levels they are aiming to reach. So from a standpoint of starting at the bottom, it's extremely competitive, a little too much at times. Since there is so much competition, management can only sit back and wait for those who are going to stick out the competitive process, so it sometimes seems like you're not getting as much help from them as you would like. Plus, the information regarding advancement is very limited, you only get the information when you're about to be promoted so you're kind of in the dark and the position you want may not be all you think it is.

Pros

good structure. solid organization that seems to be someplace that will be around for awhile. employee morale is good in areas of the store as it depends on what manager you report to. it seems that customer service and merchandising associates are constantly changing with limited opportunities for growth. enough managers to be able to go on vacation without stressing.

Cons

too big, no ability to know everyone. career opportunities seem limited unless you are friends with those above you as it seems that promotions are already decided prior to interview process. communication is limited as to what plans are for future and personal career growth opportunities.
