Pros

some of the people are great to work with. the work/life balance has been very consistent regardless of what team I was on. the compensation is pretty good with decent RRSP match, salary, benefits.

Cons

there's a very closed circle of leaders (dir+) who all grew up in the org together which makes it very difficult to integrate and fit. This is only becoming worse and worse over time where you have to either conform or be forced to leave. More of these types of leaders disguise micromanaging as taking interest or “humble inquiry”. Evidently, it's clear there is a genuine lack of trust in the good people that are hired. Furthermore, outside experience doesn't really matter once someone enters Capital One. It's as if everything is reset and it's either the Capital One way, or no way. What's the point in seeking talent, if they're treated this way? In one of the teams that manage late paying customers, there is a genuine sense of dread when working on projects where people are constantly fearing saying the wrong things. The whole corporate culture is very cult like and leaders talk about diversity but in reality, none of that matters. Opinions are welcomes as long as they're the same.

Pros

Good Technology, very advanced and forward looking in tech, specially compared to other financial companies

Cons

Sleazy Managers. No Accountability for managers. My manager kept misleading me that my promotion has already been approved. Turns out, he didn't even table it, let alone being approved. Very high favoritism amongst managers, and zero accountability and transparency in the performance management conversations results in mediocrity and sycophancy being favoured over real output.

Pros

They pay you money I guess

Cons

I was a data analyst for about a year, but left as soon as I possibly could. I'll just be upfront here - I'm a white woman, and this was a place for Indian men. Almost my entire department was Indian. Really set the culture of the place - I was supposed to be a super meek little woman, without opinions. Racist (against white people) and sexist place - at least in the data analyst sphere. Yikes - stay away! This was such a shock - this was my second job and my previous company had been wonderfully supportive of women, so this was just so weird to me. I was specifically told to hang back, not speak in meetings, not take initiative, etc. When I had the experience, creativity, and intelligence to really make a difference. Such a weird place, the data analyst environment. A real blip on my resume - haven't had any other issues in my career, so I do think it's them, not me.
