Pros

Capital One has allowed me the opportunity to work a very flexible schedule. I have not missed one event for my child or family. I do need to work longer hours at tmes to accomodate this, but it is worth it to me to take time with my family. The people at Capital One are great to work with. It is a very collaborative environment where people want to help one another and it is just one of many reason Capital One is the successful company it is today.

Cons

Compared to other employers, there are limited downsides to working at Capital One. One downside now is that the entire Financial Industry is not ideal to work in, but Capital One is leading their peers in terms of weathering the storm. There are times when you work a lot of hours, but the flexibility that is offered and provided equals that out. There is a competitive environment at Capital One, but in a good way. Everyone is always striving to be the best and be on the A Team. It's still very team oriented and the competitiveness is not intended to be a negative thing, but for those that are not into that environment, this may not be the place for them.

Pros

The pay is pretty good compared to the rest of VA. Flexible work arrangements are nice and assist with work/life balance. Development opportunities are also nice with Six Sigma and project management classes offered. Will learn a lot about the corporate world and being a professional. You will also have the opportunity to work with many personality types. This assists you in developing the necessary networking and communication skills to be successful and maintain good relationships with your coworkers.

Cons

Very competitive. Each year it gets harder and harder to achieve the higher ratings. Makes the associates feel that they must compromise on work life balance to maintain or get ahead.

Inconsistencies everywhere

Pros

Benefits, compensation and paid time off.

Cons

Inconsistency in treatment of employees - favoritism runs rampant, and those who kiss up really do get ahead, while those who knuckle down and work hard are passed over. Also, inconsistency between departments is appalling. While COF has been recognized by Working Mother, I have only known 1 person in 3 departments who has been able to work a flexible schedule. In my current department, I was turned down flat without any reasoning why, and the person who was allowed just gets promoted more.
