Pros
Good opportunity for College Students There are plenty of positions in technical support or sales or QA and entry level engineering.
Cons
Shares the same problem as McDonald's for quality assurance. Serious Engineers needn't apply. Like McDonald's Barracuda upper management is so constantly preoccupied and over-subscribed that they have little to no time to pay attention to the products. The middle management is poorly chosen and mostly blames each other or their employees for mistakes rather than owning up to them and fixing them. The engineering leads have a predominantly elitist attitude that creates a negative environment. Suggestions are mocked and belittling others are the only real skill many of them possess. Those who are actually skilled tend to keep their heads down and avoid rocking the boat. This dilutes their effectiveness greatly. The primary goal of engineers is to find a way to sell commodity desktop machines jammed into a cool case at 10x their original cost and exploit open source software like spam assassin, clam av, and many more to get the job done. Features are hacked in based on a single email to management from a customer planning to buy one unit rather than using proper research. Overall its a giant house party living off the recurring revenue of legacy products.
