I worked in mechanical engineering, the pay was good and there a ton of opportunities within the company

There was some downtime occasionally

If you travel you can make a lot off of per diem. At some points it exceeded my base pay.

No training. Management expects you to jump into the role with very little training and gives you very little in the form of feedback. You work as a fill in for the gaps in the system engineering process and the total lack of change management. There’s very little upward mobility. Just a manager and director above.
