Management is poor, have a lot of other tasks nothing to do with management, it's not even their primary focus
Management gatekeep opportunities for career advancement
You'll advance depending on how close you are with your manager and if your manager likes you
Felt like some managers did not understand their female employees, would push women more towards scrummaster and management roles and would not encourage or have any belief in women for senior engineer role. You'd see young lads that weren't as trustworthy go for it while long term female employees weren't getting the same feedback or opportunities
Can get stuck under one manager and unable to move
Low retention of employees - good people leaving all the time, and no great new senior experience coming in
No loyalty for long term employees - leaving the company and returning in a few year time window will net you a better salary than staying for that time
Poor benefits over covid - no covid relief days, no help with covid tax benefits, no christmas or summer perk bonuses in lieu of missed parties and events
Use older technologies and slow to move on, and with a lot of in house tool alternatives it can feel like you're falling behind in your tech knowledge stack
Told over and over that you can't find the culture anywhere else but once you go you realise you can, and that culture wasn't as great as you kept being told, other companies have more team building, and more focus on relationships and good place to work
