Pros

- In most cases, base salary above industry average. - Day to day people are smart, nice and collaborative.

Cons

Please here me when I say, Henkel is not the place for you no matter what your situation is. This company has horrible business practices and leaders at every level. The company runs too lean to operate effectively. Many times, people are spread so thin that they can’t manage their work load and struggle to hit any deadlines. As a marketer, you will be running a brand by yourself with no resources while also working as a project manager, financial analyst, etc. All decisions are centralized in Germany by leaders who don’t understand the US market. Direction changes often due to lack of true leadership. Budgets are constantly cut and you’re frequently doing exercises to cut programming every month. So much so that all printers are default set to black and white ink to save money. Most leaders above director level are German, and don’t understand simple things such as work/life balance. You’re expected to work around the clock. Training is non existent. You step in day one with no onboarding expected to know your business. There is no training or onboarding. Because budgets are constantly cut its impossible to drive your business. Retailers recognize this and don’t take the brands seriously. There is a template process for everything that is inefficient. You spend the bulk of your time presenting internally or doing someone else’s job. I can’t stress enough how bad this company is, don’t let the size fool you. This company has caused so many people stress. I would have a hard time coming in daily and many people felt this way.

Pros

Great company to work for. It is encouraged/acceptable to move around to different positions to broaden your experience. Passionate about talent development. There is a lot of training out there that you can take to improve upon certain skills. Company is flexible and allows employees to work from home and gives employees great work-life balance. Competitive pay and excellent retirement benefits.

Cons

Like any company (and not unusual), there is pressure to see the business perform well.

Run, Don't Walk Away From this Company!

Pros

Pay is ok, though a little below the local market for a company of this size. Benefits are generally good. Great local team of smart people who care about each other and their work (except for local german leadership which is exact opposite)

Cons

Would not wish this company on my worst enemies. As is clear to anyone reading thru comments, there is a general theme of abusive management. If you come here, know that this is an authoritarian, abusive place, unlike any other place you have seen. Instead of working together to fix problems and grow the business, the german leadership want to focus on gotcha moments, trying to break people down and destroy them instead of building and growing talent. At Henkel it seems you are dispensable, to be used up and thrown out. Cannot overstate how much this place feels like a toxic environment. The local leadership also always seems angry and out to get people. It’s sad, because there is a lot of fantastic talent here in US, if only everyone could sit down and calmly discuss the business challenges and work as a team to fix. Would love to hear more of “how can we help you grow the business” instead of “why do you all keep screwing up”. Really it sees there are no true german leaders. All we get is a lot of german managers. There is a difference! Forget HR helping as they seem at best ineffective and at worst supportive of an abusive culture. At Henkel, we do not have the proper resources to get the job done well and they run so lean you cannot hope to get things done. Some great brands with a lot of potential for a company if it cared about its employees and cared about investing in growing the brands instead of squeezing the life out of brands and people.
