Pros

Some good people to work with. Lots of different products allow you to learn different CPG landscapes. If you like working in giant corporations, you'll probably like it.

Cons

The German HQ does all the strategic thinking, budgeting and any work that requires more than 14 brain cells to do. Your job is to push paper to accomplish what HQ deems is the flavor of the week on top of your already unmanageable workload. There is constant movement among brand teams, which means continuity = non-existent. Unfortunately, HQ also thinks strategies and plans are one-size fits all and have a limp-handshake of a grasp on the US market. Getting one small thing done requires eons of signatures, jumping through hoops, moving mountains etc... that make the company top heavy and difficult to navigate.

North America in a State of Turmoil

Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. Great product portfolio

Cons

Since the acquisition of Sun Products, the entire North America consumer products organization has been in a state of turmoil, and add in a relocation from Arizona to Connecticut and its a demoralizing place to work. The new hires who will start in Connecticut are being told this is a great company who embraces individuality and innovation- which is does not. You are a German drone to the decision makers in Dusseldorf. You will spend your time doing paperwork, and mailing samples to Germany so that they can make decisions (there is zero local decision making ability). Annual reviews and compensation is based on negotiating, managers get in a room and often those who have zero interaction with you, vote for you to get a poor review, as there is a forced raking system (only so many top reviews available to dole out). You can expect not to be a Top performer 2 years in a row, even if your manager says you performed at that level. Also, promotions are few and far between.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand that the move to Connecticut is a significant change. We would like to reassure our employees that this is an important part of Henkel's growth and offers many opportunities to our employees.

Pros

Competitive salary and benefits. Some departments have great work/life balance and flexibility - but it is not across company and some departments have very little to none

Cons

Leadership is a problem. Letting people lead by humiliation and putting fear in people is not smart . You have many talented people afraid to speak their minds and share ideas out of fear of reaction. More focus on developing internal talent and movement within company.
