Pros

In my experience at IBM, managers were well-trained and were often interested in seeing employees grow and expand their skills. IBM does hire some wonderful people - I was able to learn many skills from many of my teammates and also developed a variety of mentoring relationships.

Cons

Work-life balance was always promoted but not always well-enforced. The size of IBM makes it a difficult company to learn and training in entry-level positions is not always available. Compensation was not always in line with other companies (for those in their early careers) and oftentimes employees would have to threaten quitting to receive a retention bonus.

Pros

Relaxed work environment with flexible scheduling. Variety of work and opportunities is tremendous. IBM also provides a means for changing between jobs within the company and allows you to shadow other jobs to see if a different position would be right for you. Good benefits package. Great discount program.

Cons

Big corporation bureaucracy. You see a lot of the "red tape" that is typically associated with companies of this size. Everyone complains about the lack of raises and promotions which is standard with what I've seen at other large companies; there's only so much money to go around.

Pros

It is a relatively solid company that has a good history and longevity in the marketplace. There is a lot of opportunity for growth within the company, and it seems like there are some managers that really want to help you flourish in the company. They have a great work-life-balance perspective, but unless you're in a personal crisis - you are expected to perform above and beyond (as the norm)

Cons

Corporate bureaucracy, lack of employee appreciation, poor planning on many internal projects that lead to disastrous or clunky tools for the internal population. We're a top technology company who makes it's employees use antiquated hardware and tools.
