Pros

There's virtually no red tape and engineers have enormous say in what they work on. We hack on crazy ideas six times per year and the CEO and CTO personally sit down with teams after every hackathon see new and exciting projects.

Cons

Facebook moves fast. We try new things and have a culture of iteration. If you need to build something big and need to do it methodically it helps to have thick skin and proxy metrics to show progress along the way. We've built and open source numerous substantial projects along these lines, so it is decidedly possible. I think it says a lot that this is the biggest con I could think of. Facebook is hands down the most incredible company I've ever worked at.

Pros

I'm working in the infrastructure department (I'm less aware of the working experience in the product). The people I'm working with are very smart and motivated. The infra challenges are kind of unique. There are still a lot of things to build, the personal impact can be huge. Extremely open environment.

Cons

Sometimes we're less organized than the other, more hierarchical companies (it's a part of the company culture of moving fast).
