      Warehouse Operative Interview

      Jul 10, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Chatham, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ASDA (Chatham, England) in Jun 2016

      Interview

Got a call roughly three days after I applied online asking me to come to one of two group interview sessions and I chose the latter as I wasn't available till then. When I got there, there were 9 others in the group and we were taken to a room with our names on seats around a table. We gave our right to work documents in and one woman showed us around the front and back of the store to pass the time as they photocopied them. When we got back in, the documents were handed back to us and our first task was to to each other in pairs and find out things about each other, they specifically wanted us to find out what our favourite animals were for some reason. This activity was clearly to show how we interact with each other. I mad an effort ti say hello with a big smile on my face and ask my questions clearly and relatively loudly. A couple of laughs in between wouldn't hurt either. Presenting what you found out about your partner is pretty self-explanatory. The next and final task was to make a the tallest tower possible out of building blocks. This was boys against girls and the aim of this was to show how you work in a group. I would advise that you make sure that you are vocal, but not overbearing. Make sure you give your opinion but allow and encourage others to speak and adjust your approach to the task accordingly. One thing I forgot to do was give eye contact to the other members as I was talking to them, this would show that you're engaged in what they're saying. The scenarios also changed midway to see how the groups coped e.g. 'I've decided I don't want any blue blocks in my tower anymore'. All in all the process lasted about 40 minutes. 20 minutes after I left I got a call asking if I could come to try out the next day for their chosen department which was just a formality in all honesty. I was shown what I would be doing on the shop-floor and they asked what hours I could work.

      Interview

Face to face interview alongside other interviewees who are applying for other range. Several "team-building" tasks were also carried out. Overall process was fairly informal, I only had a day between the actual interview and the phonecall where I was told I had the interview.
