Why has it taken so long for you to seek a sales job?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at AbbVie (Austin, TX) in Nov 2023
Interview
I went through 7 interviews and ultimately the manager decided on the other candidate. Each interview was strange and not cohesive. One of the interviews, the other regional manager told me that I needed to change my résumé and basically lie on it….. The actual hiring manager was extremely unprofessional in the communication from start to finish. During the 5th interview, she told me I would be interviewing with the district manager next. Several days went past the time she said she would reach out. Then she asked if I could meet at a Starbucks a few days after Thanksgiving. I ultimately had to cancel a trip to see my family during Thanksgiving so that I could be in town because flights were too expensive to change. I asked her the Friday after Thanksgiving when and
where we were supposed to meet. She told me she would send me the address on a Sunday. Seriously. She sent me the address Sunday evening. It was a half an hour away. The next day I traveled there. She walked into the “pow-wow” (aka should’ve been a phone call) in jeans, a sweatshirt, and hiking boots. Seriously. It ultimately was a pointless conversation just to basically brief me on the following interview. It was unprofessional to say the least. I was BAFFLED. It gets more ridiculous if you can believe it.
The following, and final, interview was over an hour and a half away. She wanted me to be there at 9 AM. It was during insane morning traffic, and a bad rainstorm. The most unprofessional thing about it was the fact that she didn’t even offer to reimburse me for my travel. Never has a company put me through this many interviews and this much travel, and not immediately offered to reimburse me for mileage. I had to awkwardly ask for it.
Then, during the final interview, she went out of her way several times to tell me that I would have and answer the following day. She waited 5 days to finally call me. She even ignored a text message, asking if they had made a decision yet. Incredibly mean☹️
It was a drawn out interview process and for no reason. During the last interview, she made jokes about how many interviews she had put me through. She even made me list all of them to her boss. Her boss looked confused and a bit empathetic. It was a disappointing process. I believed this company was professional and empathetic to unemployed people. It left a really bad taste in my mouth and I will never try to interview for this company again.
