I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Feb 2016
Interview
Applied online then took the online test which was just 7 super simple debugging questions. Scheduled a phone interview, which was supposed to be the last step in the process. Interviewer asked about a project I worked on and what my role in the project was. Conceptual questions involved Array vs LinkedList, Array vs ArrayList, Hashtable implementations/collision handling, runtimes. Programming question was a super simple array question that I totally overcomplicated. Just did the interview this morning, haven't heard back but I didn't do very well so it's definitely a no. Interviewer was super nice and always explained things really well when I couldn't answer a question.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Given two arrays of numbers, find all common numbers between the two arrays.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Melbourne) in Nov 2015
Interview
I applied online, and was contacted shortly afterward for a coding test. This was conducted on the site HackerRank. The questions were very easy, for example I had to implement a binary search in whichever language I chose.
I was successful with the coding test, and invited interstate for in-person interviews. These interviews took place over a 4 hour period on one morning, 4 separate 1 hour interviews, each with a different interviewer. These interviewers asked a range of questions from technical questions about data structures and algorithms, to work experience questions (i.e. "have you ever been in a situation where X, and how did you deal with it").
They were deliberately vague, even when I asked clarifying questions. At one point I was asked "design a system that X", with no other prompting. I was quite unprepared for something this vague, and I struggled with exactly what I should do to "design" the system in that moment, even if the design of such a system was not very difficult. I would highly recommend preparing for a question such as this.
Furthermore, they will ask you for stories about your career. A lot of them. I found myself struggling to remember enough unique situations where I'd encountered and solved the issues that they asked about. I prepared for this by coming up with stories, but I underestimated just how many of such questions they'd ask. I ended up repeating the same story to different interviewers on a number of occasions.
After the interviews were over, I was contacted a number of weeks later informing me that I was not successful.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Design a system that air traffic controllers could use to manage the takeoffs and landings of aircraft.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2016
Interview
Two online coding assessments.
First had logical and one coding.
Second had two coding questions.
Third was an onsite for me.
Amazon has so many loopholes in its process. People who don't even know how to create a ppt got through! Am not saying this cos I didn't make it through the process but am definitely questioning the quality of those hired through a Skype round instead of the onsite!!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Simple ones in first two rounds.
The onsite was a project given there, upon being grouped into teams of 2-3 people.
