Applied for the recent grad Software Developer position. I got an email about a month later stating I was selected for a phone interview. I was called at the exact time stated in the email. The interviewer had a strong accent and was hard to understand over the phone.
First, basic questions were asked such as why you wanted to work at Amazon, etc. Eventually went to technical questions, which since Java was my strong suit listed, was about Java. A bunch of things about OOP and Java specifics: inheritance, interfaces and abstract classes, difference between final, finally and finalizer, etc.
Then I was given a coding problem. This part was kind of awkward. I was told to put the phone down for a few minutes and code, then read the code back to him over the phone. So imagine reading code over the phone: int, functionName, left parentheses, int x, right parentheses, open curly brace....
Anyway, I was emailed 3 days later stating I was not selected. Overall, the phone interview was not difficult. Just brush up on what you learned before.
