The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Jun 2011
Interview
In the phone interview all questions were easy answer and were basic. I think we have to concentrate on data structures, algorithms, OOP concepts, Problem solving which is intuitive and design questions.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in May 2011
Interview
My thesis professor told me that one of his former students was reaching out for potential interviewees. After announcing my interest and his recommendation, I was contacted for a series of in-person interviews at a hotel in NYC. I prepared using this site so I highly recommend you do that same to get a feel for the questions that are asked.
The first day I had one interview. It consisted of introducing myself, discussing my resume, and writing a little bit of code. I was then asked to come back the next day for 3 more interviews which were more technical.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amazon in Nov 2010
Interview
I had a number of six interviews each one with a different group of technical people. Each group had its own area of expertise so the questions referred to OOP, algorithm complexities (sorting, data structure operations), data structures (hash tables, lists, arrays, binary trees) etc.
The people I had the interview with were well prepared so it was a pleasure to have a conversation with them. They also presented me what they were working on (the web services behind amazon.com).
