Applied for a role at Amazon that aligned closely with my experience. Shortly after, I was contacted by a recruiter who suggested I interview for a higher-level position, citing that my background exceeded the original role's requirements. I agreed, optimistic about the opportunity.
I completed the first-round interview for the higher-level role, only to be told shortly afterward that the role had been abruptly closed—without prior notice or explanation. Rather than pausing to reassess fit or next steps, I was pushed into a panel interview for yet another, different role, involving five interviewers across various teams.
After this time-consuming process, I was extended an offer for a position one level below the one I initially applied for. The base salary was more than 50% lower than my current compensation, with no clear justification or alignment with the seniority of roles I had been considered for.
The entire process felt disorganized, inconsistent, and lacking in transparency. Roles shifted without explanation, communication was fragmented, and the final outcome bore no resemblance to the opportunities initially presented. It gave the impression of a chaotic internal process that did not respect the candidate’s time, experience, or expectations. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience.
