I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2016
Interview
A phone screen was arranged by a recruiter I contacted. Phone screen included some regular data structures questions and 2 problems requiring coding. One day after the phone screen I was invited on-site. I must say that the on-site interview process is streamlined very well and I had no issues at all until one on one interviews started.
My first interview was with the hiring manager who asked about my past experience & resume and some behavioral questions. Up to this point everything was handled professionally.
On my second round I met with a software engineer in my prospective team who seemed to be very tired and confused. She gave me a design and coding question and then she started working on her computer. I asked some clarifying questions and she quickly answered them like she wanted to get back to what she was doing. As I was constructing the answer, I was thinking out loud to let her know what is going on. She did not seem to care and mostly did her thing until I finished coding on whiteboard. At this time I needed to explain again what my code was doing because she did not pay attention.
My third round was all about behavioral and resume questions. This round was handled professionally like the first round.
Fourth round was again with another prospective colleague. He asked me 2 coding questions. This interviewer was also working on his computer but this time it was not so obvious as the second interviewer. He paid attention to what I did and answered my questions.
My last round was a bit funny. The interviewer was making sarcastic jokes and trying to be funny. (One example that I was escorted to the bathroom and stopped for a second to see which room is the men's room. His comment was "Yes. this is your first test haha"). Same guy also told me that he forgot my resume and asked me to go over it. I am coming from across the US to interview with you and you could not print or at least have my resume ready on your laptop?! Anyway, he asked me a question about concurrency but he was not familiar with the language I gave my answer with so he did not understand my solution. He was trying to push me towards using primitive concurrency constructs which did the same thing. After I answered the question he started checking his watch and seemed to be wanting to pass time by chatting with me on other topics.
What I concluded from my interview is that the junior engineers are not trained on how to conduct interviews. They get cocky with the power they have, probably have much other work to do and cannot concentrate on the interview. Such a waste of time and effort for the company!
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Amazon (Bengaluru) in Jan 2016
Interview
I applied online. first round was telephonic. I completed first round today. Currently process is going on. Waiting for result. and than will proceed for next round. As I proceed further, will update same here. Data structure, DP, Algorithm
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Bottom view of a binary tree.
No of paths from top left corner to bottom right corner of a matrix with cost of K.
I had applied to Amazon through campus recruitment process. I had to first take a proctor exam that included some reasoning questions as well as 2 coding questions. A 45 minute interview followed the exam during which I was asked 2 coding questions based on algorithms and data structures.
