I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Oct 2015
Interview
Applied online and got an email from a recruiter the next day. Set up a phone interview for that week. Interviewer was friendly and seemed to be interested in the project he asked about. Lasted an hour.
I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Amazon (Ciudad de Mexico) in Jun 2014
Interview
Got recruited by Amazon at my university and was scheduled for an online screening, I was given a list of topics regarding computer science that will be covered on the interview, sorting algorithms, order of complexity, object oriented stuff, and web services, during the interview I had to answer some questions and video record my answers which is weird the first time, it got me a little nervous because I hadn't done it before, so if you have this type of interview, get in a close room, quiet and with good lighting.

Question 1
Explain a sorting algorithm and its impact on cpu and memory.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA)
Interview
No initial phone screens. Directly went to their Seattle HQ for an all-day group coding challenge. Personally I prefer this format to the conventional 4/5 45-min rounds of white board coding. After 2 weeks I got the offer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
NDA but it was a mini project consisting of three parts for the two/three members of a group. During the day interviewers talked to you about your solution.
