I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Jun 2011
Interview
I was invited to be interviewed for one of the team within AWS, the phone screens consisted of basic understanding of UNIX, Scripting, Databases and Company Fit. From then on the interview became tougher and tougher, I was asked in details about Linux, Scripting skills, SQL, troubleshooting, day to activity, what was my contribution, problem solving etc. You cannot expect a pattern in Amazon interviews be ready for the worst. All the best!!!!

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2011
Interview
The Amazon.com interview process was somewhat long, but very thorough. They started with a couple of 1-hour phone interviews with a couple of their Network Engineers, who worked through my resume and asked questions about what I'd done previously and what I was looking to do in the future. They then proceeded to ask me technical questions regarding the skills listed on my resume.
I then advanced to an in-person interview, where they flew me up to Seattle and set up a full day of interviews, with went from about 10am through 4pm. They had me in a small conference room and rotated through about six different people to interview me, including network engineers, a Linux engineer, a software person and the team supervisor.
