The process took 1 day. I interviewed at American Express in Mar 2009
Interview
The interview consisted of a series of detailed technical questions without any context. It was more like a memorization test than a test to discern the interviewees ability to do critical thinking in a highly technical environment. I was told that I did not have the required experience based on the interview. In fact I have over 20 years experience doing technical management of the types of computer systems they use.
The interview was difficult because the questions asked for the names of specific files and what needed to be changed in the files to perform a specific technical task. This is a silly approach since that kind of information is easily looked up by an experienced engineer who knows how to perform the task, but does not keep all the details in his head.

Interview
Recruiter got me interview, I met with 2 potential peers. Their questions were enthusiastic and challenging. Changed interview perspective for me, eliminated much of the fear. As peers, I was more comfortable talking with them. I think they got a more honest interpretation of ME than when I interview with bosses.
