      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at AppDynamics (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2017

      Interview

Initial phone screen with HR, phonescreen with hiring manager and then onsite interview with various team members (3 hours onsite 1:1). Most folks asking questions were pretty weak and not challenging. Everyone seemed hung up on why us and why do you want to leave your current job? The hiring manger did provide a tour of the office, typical startup feel video games and free food. Eventually after the interviews ended, HR person said would contact within a few days. Week goes by and no word, I email and no response. Let to figure out that they are not moving forward with me. So, this is the new norm if not selected dont expect to hear from us.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at AppDynamics (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

I had the screening, 3 phone interviews, and 2 onsite. First onsite comprised of 4 people and the second with a 30 minute presentation, 5 people. Recruiter provided feedback for interviews. Feedback I thought was interesting - asked for more details however I was providing specific projects I worked on along with the metrics. Supposedly I didnt get the offer because of a situational question they asked to test my "strategic" thought process (which did stump me - I should have said I didn't have enough information to answer) but I had provided plenty of examples previously where I did analysis and provided recommendations - including the 30 minute presentation I had to do during the second onsite interviews. There was a comment provided to me - so I had a feeling they already had a candidate in mind. The hiring manager kept cutting me off after every question which probably should have been a sign. But actually I found out later that they had decided to not backfill the position and still proceeded to continue with the interview. This experience was pretty unpleasant where you spend hours preparing for the interviews and get bogus feedback when the intention was to never higher anyone for the position. By the way, all though it is ultimately "Cisco" as they were acquired, the setup is very "start-up". They have collaborative workspaces where I don't see how anyone can get anything done when you are a conference call and the people next to you are having conversations. But some people like that.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Some were really great questions and I had some that I took me by surprise . 1) what do you know about me? Most people study linkedin profiles 2) What are they saying about us glassdoor? (the manager actually didn't like my response - i felt) 3) What is AppDynamics 4) how would you create a dashboard to show status across organizations 5) what are your career goals? Why do you want this job (I had responded that I like working close to sales and partners and he didn't like my answer - asked if I was just saying that because I want the job) 6) situational question to test my thought process
