First step was an HR screening, which was basic and straightforward. Second step was an interview with the potential supervisor, which was quite informal and unstructured; it was really just a chat. Third step was a formal, structured interview with potential supervisor, a colleague, and a higher manager; this was a unique, values-based interview for which I was given general topics/values in advance. I found this informative, as I did the answers they provided to my questions. But this interview contained a curveball question that I would have expected from the potential supervisor in the earlier interview; in retrospect, I think that person was remiss in asking me earlier, and after my extensive preparation for the values-based questions, I didn't handle this question well. I did address it in a followup thank you email.
