I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Best Buy (Los Angeles, CA) in Aug 2012
Interview
Applied online. Got a phone call a week later and set up for 1:1 interview in store for next day. Went in for interview.
Here's where it gets a bit weird. I applied for Mobile manager with 11 years retail exp in retail mgmt ( tho i admit it wasnt in a different field but retail is retail and customer service is customer service) and BS degree in Bus Mgmt.
Soon as we sat down, the interviewr apologizes and asks me if I'm there for the PART-TIME sales rep position. I say no and he apologizes again and says the only opening they have is part time sales in mobile dept.
I am pretty shocked, disappointed and let down instantly. The interviewer was a nice guy and I could genuinely tell he was embarrased and a bit flustered as well.
Looking down at my resume, he asks if I even want to continue with the interview. I politely declined and asked how this could happen. The only job opening they had at this location was for the mobile store manager and how can a candidate go from applying for a manager trainee job opening to a part time sales rep job and not told this up front when the HR coordinator called me to book the appt.
His reply was that at the store level, none of their personnel can even see what position or what type of employment a candidate applied for, which I find a bit hard to believe but whatever. He says that when they requested a few candidates for part time sales position, corporate just sends them a pool of people they can interview who passed the personality/iq test but it does not distinguish, prior exp, what they applied for, part or full time etc.
Too bad, I really would have gone for anything if it was full time or asst mgr level or above. Kind of seems shady to me that I had to spend time preparing for this 2 days earlier thinking it was for a mgmt position interview.
Anyone going in for an interview with BBY in near future, I strongly urge you to ask upfront when they call if what you would be interviewing for would be what you applied for.
Apparently I was not the only one that day that went through the same circumstances at this location or so I was told before I left by another employee.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Best Buy in Jul 2012
Interview
Submitted application was called back about 5 - 7 days later.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a time when you had to create a gap management plan, what was the situation, what did you do, was it effective, how did you know you were effective, and with the knowledge you have now what would you have changed.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Best Buy (Terre Haute, IN) in Jun 2012
Interview
Applied online and they called me for a first interview in the same day. I felt I did pretty well, I was nervous because it took them around 2 weeks to finally call back for a second interview. I was asked the general questions and what was generally expected of me. The store manager actually liked the answers to my questions so they bumped me straight into the 3rd right there. He told me that we had to do a role-play and we shared some small-talk about our educational backgrounds. Honestly, I didn't do well at the role-play. It was my first sales job and I was extremely nervous, but the manager showed me some techniques right then and there and they gave me a chance. I was then asked to work as part of their team and accepted the job right there.

I honestly don't remember. The interview was generally not too hard.
