I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Best Buy (Elk Grove, CA) in Mar 2012
Interview
I believe there is usually a few interviews with different people. I thought I answered the questions pretty well, but was told that their salesman will EAT me alive and that I'm not ready to compete. What a pretentious process, contrived by nonsensical and deceptive practice. I found that hilarious considering my previews jobs was a verizon rep, before that a personal banker, and both jobs I could easily clock in 50k/year, which will never be possibe. It's okay, I ended up at Fry's, much better opportunity considering it's skill and commission draw based.
I applied through other source. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Best Buy (Raleigh, NC) in Oct 2012
Interview
I arrived at my local Best Buy during a job fair and was instructed to wait by customer service and wait to be called. One manager came over and said that my application had been messed up in the system and helped me fill out a new one on the customer kiosk. Once my name was called I had an interview with one of the supervisors. He was kind and polite and didn't rush me, and asked me questions about my day and how school was going and just basic small talk. We walked to the security room where the actual interview began, he asked me what 3 departments I wanted to work in, my grades, why I want to work there, and if I have any questions. After the first interview I got sent to another interview with one of the department managers who asked me the same basic questions, and asked me about my skills and attributes, and then again asked me about why I wanted to work there. After that interview I got sent into the General Manager for a final interview, he asked me about my hour availability, about my transportation, what department I would love to work in, and then he asked me how much I want to make. (Me looking for my first job said $7.25/minimum wage) He then said that he liked me a lot and I had a great personality, said I was hired and I was getting paid for the time in the interview and gave me $8.50/hour salary, and put me in the Computer/Tablet department as the youngest sales associate in the store.
