I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Best Buy (Savannah, GA) in Jun 2012
Interview
I am adept with digital photography, computers, design software, particularly Macs and their applications, and complex home theatre systems, and I was responding to part-time openings (Weekend Warriors?) in these areas. I cold called Best Buy and asked for--and was granted--the interview because I did not receive a response to my online application. The interview scheduled for a Sunday morning started 15 minutes late (mine was the first of the day) and was conducted in a semi-public and busy setting. The questions asked were superficial and the session lasted about 20 minutes. If was clear from the start that I did not, as an older semi-retired commercial printing entrepreneur, match the profile the interviewer was seeking and, worse, I may have presented a perceived threat to her role as manager of computer, digital photography and home theatre systems. Needless-to-say, I did not receive any formal decision and was politely told the hiring manager was too busy to see me when I returned to the store in person asking for a follow up talk. I suspect the reason why had more to do my demeanor and background as a manager than my qualifications, but clearly I have to improve my presentation and persuasive skills if I truly want a part-time big box sales job--particularly when being interviewed by someone almost half my age.

Question 1
"Name a time when you went out of your way for a customer."
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Best Buy (Katy, TX) in Oct 2012
Interview
Filled out an application online, then completed a 50 question "personality" test.
If you pass the test with a certain score (that they see, not you), you will get a call and a simple phone interview about availability and why you want to work for Best Buy questions...
I interviewed with the ASM and Sales Supervisor. They were both nice, but seemed to have absolutely no intrest in interviewing me, as throughout most of the interview they kept looking in the direction of what was going on outside of the room (which was just in the store pick-up area, and had a view of the open area of the store. Several times I would be speaking and they would barely look at me. The ASM did make eye-contact here and there, but the Sales Supervisor (although she was "writing down my words") never looked at me at all.
It was the end of the day and there were 2 interviews before me, so maybe they were just tired, but it was pretty distracting to see them constantly looking out of the room and making faces at the other employees standing just outside.
You will then recieve another interview with the GM, which is where they will offer or decline to give you the job.

Question 1
Very basic "print-n-go" interview packet questions.....heard it once, heard it before.

Interview
I filled out an application online and received a phone call the next day. I went on the interview with the Team Leader which went well. A week later, I got a call from the store manager for another interview and ended up interviewing with the District Manager that same day.

Question 1
"Why do you want a job?" The question took me by surprise. I guess he wanted to see if I wanted it for the right reasons.
