I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Best Buy (Pittsburgh, PA) in Jun 2008
Interview
I submitted the interview on line, it took about 40 minutes, was called back the next day and was interviewed over the phone, was set up for an interview 2 days later with one of the sales supervisors. I then had an interview with the general manager a couples days later, who then offered me the job. From there, I had 48 hours to complete a drug test. Once the results were submitted, I was brought in for new employee orientation.
Anyone who is called in for an interview should arrive no more than 15 minutes early but no less than 5 minutes early, Best Buy (at least my store) is kind of funny about that. You should have a lot of energy and passion for working for the company in your interview. You don't have to be a genius with electronics, but as long as you are good with people interactions and show a willingness to learn, you will have a good chance of being brought into the family.
The work culture can be stressful sometimes if the store is under achieving, but for the most part is very fun when things are going well. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who can't handle high pressure selling.
What was the most difficult team you've worked with? What made it difficult? What did you do to make the team work better together and what was the outcome?
The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Best Buy (Iowa City, IA) in Aug 2011
Interview
Applied online. Received a phone call about a week later. I spoke with a manager over the phone for an initial interview because I was not in town. The interview went well over the phone and we set up another interview when I would be in town with the General Manager and he would ultimately decide if I would be hired. The second interview was short, maybe 10 minutes and mix of general questions and specific. Since I never worked retail before I was asked specific questions on what I would do or have done in certain situations.
