I applied online. I interviewed at Bloomberg (London, England) in Jul 2019
Interview
After the application process, the candidates are invited to do a recorded interview or phone interview. These interviews consist of questions like -Why Bloomberg? - Why you? - Tell me a time you have worked with a large dataset? -What is your understanding of the role? etc.
If you are successful in the phone interview you are invited for an assessment day at Bloomberg. On the assessment day, we started off with a quantitative task that had 11 questions to be answered in 30 minutes. The questions were based on Python, SQL and Statistics.
Next stage was a crucial stage and was the most difficult for me considering I was a recent graduate. I was sent into a room where there were two team leaders waiting for me with 2 sheets of flow charts. I was given a time limit of 15 mins in which was I was expected to read, understand it and come up with a solution. I tried answering to the best of my knowledge. However, it felt like they were expecting the candidates to have the technical knowledge of the job.
The third round was a group exercise and I really enjoyed this as there is no right or wrong to this assessment. They check your ability to work as a team and come up with ideas. Firstly, we had to read a scenario about uber cars owning self-driving cars. My team was expected to support the topic and present it whilst the other group had to oppose the topic and present it. After the group presentations, both groups were put together to discuss further and come to a common conclusion. Once the conclusion has been reached one person had to present it.
Finally, the shadowing exercise. One of the team leaders explained the terminal a little bit and showed some shortcuts. This round was not really a test round.
After these rounds, we were escorted out of the Bloomberg building. After an hour, each candidate would receive a call giving us detailed feedback.
If you were successful you will be invited the same day for an interview. Unfortunately, I did not.
It was a good experience overall. However, the whole process was slightly unfair because I was competing with people who had been working in this field for a period of time and no consideration was given to the fact that I was a recent graduate.
