I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at CERN (Genf) in Jul 2019
Interview
I applied on the CERN website. The required documents: cv, cover letter, motivations, list of projects I was involved in. Pretty exhaustive background check - I spend several days preparing my application. I was shortlisted (~8 persons) and have been "interviewed" online. I had to login into a special platform and record my answers for videos prepared previously by the workers of the section I was applying for. About 6 questions, mostly non-technical - rather about my motivation and approach. Two weeks after, I was contacted by the HR manager and told I was not selected due to overqualification (rather courtesy, I hold BSc only).
I applied online. I interviewed at CERN in Mar 2026
Interview
The process is highly technical and structured. It began with a presentation of my background and key projects. It was followed by a deep dive into the specific technical decisions I made in those roles/projects. This was followed by a high-level technical discussion on engineering fundamentals. It focused specifically on thermodynamics, materials science, and mechanics of solids. The interview concluded with situational questions regarding past experiences to assess problem-solving and teamwork in a professional setting.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The first question was to identify the two equations that I was being shown (Von Mises and Tresca yield criteria) and to explain the difference between them which one you would use, and why.
I applied through other source. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at CERN in Sep 2022
Interview
The interview process was good. I have been asked questions from the head of the department and the other supervisors. The second part of the interview were technical questions, to determine my level of knowledge.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CERN (London, England) in Nov 2019
Interview
Video interview as part of a 12 month placement application process. Video Interview involving 5 or 6 questions asking about myself and my skills. The interview is optional but completing it gives you a higher chance of getting in.
