I applied through a recruiter and was shortlisted for an interview (Singapore). I had initially requested for an online interview but was told that the interview was going to be with the CHRO (Wendy Xia) and that she prefers a face-to-face session. I thought that to be reasonable and agreed since I expected the CHRO to have some decision making authority and a second round of interview would probably not be necessary.
The interview was then scheduled for the following Monday at their Changi office. I arrived on time but was told to wait as the CHRO was engaged in another meeting. 15 minutes later, I was brought to a meeting room to wait. Another 15 minutes later, I was told that the CHRO could not make it for the interview and that it will be done by 2 other members of her team. I then later found out that these 2 members are of the same job level of the position I was applying for. At this point, I was incensed and lost all interest in the interview but decided to complete it for courtesy's sake.
It should be noted that I made it clear to the recruiter that I was not interested if the first round of interviews needed to be conducted face to face with someone without decision making authority. The fact that the candidate experience for a HR position was so terrible leads me to wonder how bad the people policies are in this organization.
