I first had a 30 min phone interview that went well, and was invited to an in person interview. At first I agreed to the interview, but decided to cancel after feeling unprepared to make a move. My recruiter called, emailed, and texted me, asking me to reconsider as the hiring manager was very disappointed and still wanted to meet with me. They offered to pare down the interview to 1 hour (instead of the standard 2) just as away of meeting me in person. I agreed to go in, unaware that the hiring manager would take it as an opportunity to passive-aggressively attack me for being "flaky" and passing up a rare opportunity to work for such a great company. She treated me as if I had cancelled, only to beg to be interviewed later. She began the "interview" by asking "if I extended an offer to you, how can I be confident that you would not back out at the last minute?" She then ended it by saying, "IF we want to move forward with you, you will have to come back in to meet upper management, but it will be a hard sell given that you've cancelled on us already," and "we all take so much pride working here, we can't imagine anyone not wanting to work here." She then advised me to reconsider my behavior before scheduling any more interviews. I left the meeting and swiftly let the recruiter know how insulted I was by the entire experience and that they needn't consider my candidacy anymore. To add insult to injury, recruiter emailed me the following week to let me know they were forgoing my candidacy. Apparently they won't take no for an answer without insulting and humiliating you along the way!
