      Technical Services Interview

      Apr 2, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Madison, WI
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Epic (Madison, WI) in Mar 2012

      Interview

I first found out about Epic at a University Career Fair. The recruiter I talked to about Epic made it seem like an interesting and intriguing place to work for. I got an email a couple weeks later from Epic, asking me to proceed with the application as a Technical Services, which is not what I had expressed my interest in originally. They sent me a personality test a couple days after, and a week after that an interview with one of the Technical Services Leaders. The phone interview was nothing special, as everyone else mentioned it’s just confirming your application information. Couple weeks after, was asked to complete a Skills assessment test, consisting of an IQ/Math Test, a Program Learning Test, and an actual Programming Test. I know I passed those tests with flying colors. I got to move on to the final on-campus interview 2 weeks later. The campus was amazing, very artistic and roomy; yet the workers there seemed very miserable in their offices. The on campus interview consisted Multiple-section tours, lunch, and two interviews. One of the interviews was with a Technical Services Leader with a case scenario, and the other with HR asking general interviewing questions. Afterwards had lunch with a TS employee and afterwards we had a quick verbal-test. Had a great time and experience at the campus. As most of the other candidates stated on here, I feel like Epic’s decisions are EXTREMELY biased towards your GPAs. I feel like I am the perfect candidate for this position (Lots of prior healthcare experience, physics/engineering major, CS and Math Minor, proven effective communication, leadership, and problem solving skills), and I feel very confided on my Epic Test Scores and my interviews; Yet I do not feel like I will get an offer, due to my GPA(3.2) and after talking to some of the current employees. Out of the three employees I got the pleasure of knowing, I found out two of them had no prior technical experience or major before this Job. One being a German Major, one a Communication, and one an Engineer. After subtly finding out that the German and Communications majors have had great GPAs(go figure), I had solidified my believe that Epic highly(and maybe only) looks at your GPA and does not seem pay attention to your actual major or prior experience. Honestly I do not see myself working for Epic even if an offer is made. The Technical Service/Problem Solver position is effectively a dead end job, with no real promotions or careers, and most of the experience gained at this position does not transferee well( due to the use of VERY outdated technology which is maybe used by maybe two other employers). I would only suggest this job position for those who do not wish a career and just want a good paying job, or those with ‘easy’ majors who are unable to find a job otherwise. If you have a very marketable major/experience I would suggest other job positions.
