I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at European Commission
Interview
You have to send in your application with three separate statements and a bunch of supporting documents (ID, Degree and language certificates etc.). After that though it is smooth sailing: after around 6 months you discover if you have been shortlisted in the "blue book" of 650 candidates who passed pre-selection, and you are contacted by a department interested in your application. I got only a short call which was more telling me about the opportunity and asking me if I was interested. I just had to send a writing sample and then I was formally offered a position.

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at European Commission (Brüssel)
Interview
Hiring process involved an in-depth application form. Once I passed the initial stage of selection, I contacted the HR managers and connections within my desired units to express my interest. This was following advice from several people who work for the European Commission. There was no interview.
