I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at European Commission (Brüssel) in Jan 2015
Interview
Very selective process and must apply many months in advance; worth it though. Selection procedure a bit lenghty and complicated, tends to change for year to year as well. In my case, after the initial pre-selection, I had to submit documents confirming work/education/language levels. Afterwards another pre-selection to the Blue Book from which candidates are selected.

The interview took around 15 min, everyone was super nice and friendly, 3 questions were asked in total, 2 typical HR questions + one more technical question, received feedback pretty swiftly after a few days.
