Hirevue interview
Regardless of role, Expedia always conducts the first round as HireVue. Hirevue is a consistently poor method of actually gauging candidate potential. It requires disproportionate effort from candidates for a 1 way conversation, with no guarantee their responses are even being looked at. There are many strong candidates who simply struggle with the HireVue format given that it is a one way conversation- some might thrive in a dynamic 2 way interview but are unable to get to this stage because HireVue filters them out beforehand. This means you are missing out on a significant chunk of candidates who may not fare well in a HireVue format. Furthermore, some strong candidates will refuse to do a HireVue interview altogether, because the time it takes to prep is disproportionate to the level of consideration they are receiving- in hindsight, I should've steered clear of this as well.
Lastly, there have been substantial ongoing legal cases against HireVue for unconscious bias and discrimination. When you delegate early stages of the hiring process to HireVue for the first round of interviews, you are at risk of perpetuating these same discriminations and not having an inclusive hiring process. Whatever you do at later stages to 'ensure fair and equal consideration for all' is irrelevant if many have already been filtered out at earlier stages due to AI bias.
Overall, if Expedia continues using Hirevue for future interview rounds, I'm likely to avoid Expedia altogether.
