I was privately messaged through LinkedIn by the person who runs the Ottawa, IL location regarding him wanting to help me find a position in customer service. We arranged a time and when I went in to meet his first question was “What makes you qualified for this position?” There had been no talk or indication that it was an interview. I was completely blindsided and unprepared. We talked for about an hour and he decided I should come in for a 4 hour time window the next day to see how I would fit in at the office. When I came in the next day he turned the computer on, logged into several websites for job postings, resumes, and recruiting. He gave me very few instructions and told me he needed to leave so if I had any questions, I could ask the other girls in the office. I was supposed to look up resumes that would potentially match a job description and cold call. I have no issues with phone calls or researching websites. I did however have a problem with very little direction and feeling defeated before I even started. I fumbled my way through the next four hours making calls I felt uncomfortable with. I was told things like “I want to see if you sink or swim” and “Just listen to the other girls in the office and say what they’re saying.”
