I had a very bizarre experience for a company that prides itself as a "best place to work."
Applied to a job listing on LinkedIn June 2016.
Heard nothing until August, when I got an email from their internal recruiter. Setup a 30 minute phone screening, which went fine. This was on a Friday.
Was asked to "reapply" to the position, which was basically the same description as the original one, but a different (lower) title. Was caught a bit off-guard by that, but decided to apply anyway.
A different internal recruiter than the original one I was working with setup a phone interview with the hiring manager for the Tuesday after the phone screening. It lasted about 45 minutes and I thought it went well. Wrote a nice thank-you note after.
Didn't hear anything from anyone until the following Monday, when the internal recruiter already setup an in-person interview for that Wednesday (didn't ask if that day was okay; just told me "we have you scheduled for Wednesday..."). As I was looking for a job while currently working full-time this was a bit of a conflict, but I made sure to get the day off.
The day of the interview I met with 5 different people for just over 4 hours. I left feeling great about how each one went. Everyone seemed friendly and thought my background aligned well. Asked the recruiter when I should expect to hear back and was told it could be within a day or two. Went home and wrote each person I met with an individual thank-you note. Received an automated link from Gartner's job tool asking me to provide three reference and consent to a background check. Filled it out that night.
A day went by, nothing. Another day went by, nothing. Then the weekend. Then Monday and Tuesday, all radio silence. After a full week, I reached back out to one of the recruiters asking for a status update. Was forwarded to the original recruiter. After 24 more hours was told there were still meetings happening, but no real update. Ball was in their court at this point.
Another week went by. Then another. Then another. Nothing. At this point, a rejection would have been a nice alternative to absolutely nothing.
A week or two later, I was contacted by a random recruiter who found me on LinkedIn and had a job in my field they thought I'd be good fit for. Turned out to be, you guessed it, the exact same position at Gartner. So I reached back out to them once again.
And now it's been over a week since I reached back out and NO response, at all. It's been 8 weeks since they brought me in for a half-day of interviews. I would have no problem with being rejected, but to not hear anything? That's just plain rude and unprofessional. I've hired jobs before and you always, always write back to the candidate after they've gotten that far in the process.
