I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner (Egham, England) in Mar 2015
Interview
First step is a telephone interview with a member of Gartner's internal recruitment team. This is to establish whether there is a broad cultural fit. Progression here means going into a face-to-face interview with one or more sales managers, including the hiring manager. Duration 45-60 minutes. If mostly successful here, but still one or two question marks on the Gartner side, then possibly a second face-to-face interview with different sales managers. If you make it through that, then the final stage of the process is a panel interview, which consists of a role play and a formal presentation to an audience of 3-4 sales management people.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The face-to-face interview questions are pretty standard. They are clear with you that they want to assess your drive, intellect, executive presence and sales skills. Overall, they are looking for a successful candidate to have the 'right traits' for Gartner - positivity, enthusiasm, strong motivation and drive to succeed, structured approach to setting and (over)achieving goals.
The panel interview is looking for more of the same, with a more intensive focus on your ability to uncover a prospect's real pain points during a role-play first meeting with a CIO and then a closer look at your ability to sell yourself, when you get to formally present to the room why you and Gartner are a match made in heaven.
Intensive - multiple rounds led by a recruiter. Expect 2 rounds of role play, around 4 rounds total. 2 with a recruiter, one with a lead skills expert and another panel with VPs and hiring managers.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Gartner in May 2026
Interview
30 minute phone call with recruiter. Next is 1 hour with recruiter about your background, behavioral questions. Then 1 hour with LSA with questions on your background and a role play.
HR is very accommodating and helpful through the whole process. It can be a little confusing how they structure and and label their position but easily cleared up when talking in first rounds. They are professional and get back quickly. Overall a very positive experience.
