I applied online. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in May 2017
Interview
Applied online. Recruitment team onboarded me quickly and professionally. They were courteous and helpful, sending over a lot of advice on how to prepare. I spent the next week pouring through Cracking the Coding Interview and writing test code in Notepad for problems I haven't seen since college. So far, so good. Great, even!
Then I was interviewed by a Senior Developer Advocate. From the way he mumbled his name, from his tone, from the way he cut off my answers, I could only imagine one thing: the guy had made some really poor decisions at lunch and was in, shall we say, a hurry.
Or maybe the decision had been made before the call started, and he was just going through the motions?
In any case, it was made clear "my kind" was not welcome, wanted, or needed. Very much a relief to know that at the outset. Getting hired and finding that out post facto would be far worse.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Google (London, England) in Jul 2014
Interview
Two phone calls, one from the hiring manager and the second one from the manager of the team that was hiring you. The hiring manager said that I was a very good fit for the sole so they wanted to move forward with an interview.
The second interview, by the manager of the team they were hiring for, was good, but not that great. The interviewer was not very friendly, but the interview was ok overall.
At the end they didn't move forward, they wanted someone who was busy 100% of their time coding. Not me for sure, despite that was my background.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in Aug 2014
Interview
Good communication, got on-site interviews right away. Liked the interviews, but they did not like me. I think they did not like the competition, as I have a lot of experience, as well as several patents. I liked the company culture a lot. I will continue my efforts to get a job there.
